Pets in the cabin
The pet you bring on board may weigh up to 8 kg/18 lbs including the container/pet carrier. The container must not exceed the measurements (40x25x23 cm / 16x10x9 in). Pets must remain in the container through the flight, they may not be seated in the lap or in a passenger seat. The container must be closed during taxing, take-off and landing
Pet in cabin on SAS Intercontinental flights operated by A330 and A340 is only accepted at specific seats and only in Economy Extra and Economy.
The pet and container are considered as your hand baggage, no other hand baggage is allowed. The fee for bringing you pet and container is calculated as excess baggage.

Pets are no longer allowed in the Immigration and Customs Hall. An SAS agent will meet you at the airplane
on arrival to take your pet which can then be picked up after Customs Clearance at the US Customs exit.
Service animals
Seeing eye dogs or service animals always travel free of charge. Make a reservation and obtain authorization in advance.
Pets in cargo hold
For transportation of animals as checked baggage, SAS Animal Crates (approved by veterinarian authorities) can be used. The crates, primarily intended for transportation of cats and dogs, are for sale at some of our airports and local cargo offices.
The following rules must be followed, in addition to the general rules, when transporting pets as checked baggage (AVIH):
If you wish to use your own container/crate it must:
- be made of a well ventilated, strong, leakage and bite proof material,
- be clean and disinfected,
-have a solid and leakproof floor, with a layer of moisture absorbing material
- have a door with an adequate fastening device,
- be equipped with containers for food and water,
- be large enough to allow the animal(s) to stand, turn around and lie down in a natural position,
It is possible to transport maximum two adult animals of comparable size (up to 14 kg each, used to cohabitation,) or maximum three animals up to six months old, from the same litter, in the same container/crate.

To/from US (piece concept)
When you are flying to/from US with your pet in the cabin or in the cargo hold, you will be charged one normal excess baggage charge per crate if the dimensions do not exceed 158 cm / 62 in. You will have to pay two normal excess baggage charges per crate if the dimensions exceed 158 cm / 62 in.
