Romania is one of the most fascinating, beautiful and mysterious countries of the South-East Europe, maybe the greatest European wildlife paradise. Ancient and medieval castles in Transylvania, orthodox painted monasteries in Northern Moldavia and Bucovina, archeological sites, ancient fortresses and ruins, all of these make Romania a great destination. Further more, in Romania there are numerous natural reservations where you can experience the smell and the sound of wildness.
Most of Romania’s ecotourism destinations are within protected areas such as the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, the birds paradise, the Zărneşti-ªinca-Râşnov ecotourism zone focused on large carnivores (beards, wolves and lynx) around the Piatra Craiului National Park, the Retezat National Park, the oldest national park in Romania, and the Apuseni Mountains Nature Park.
The Carpathian Mountains - another sanctuary for the wildlife - plants, prey birds, large carnivores. The third part of all European large carnivores, like brown bears, wolves and lynxes, live in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains. There are Nature Reservations and National Parks, caves, canyons, forestry roads for 4x4. The Romanian mountains are well preserved, still having huge wild areas waiting to be discovered.
